Magnificent Mills
In 2021 Emerald Ant worked with 2 schools in North and East Dorst to engage children and their local communities in two very important mills; Sturminster Newton Mill and Walford Mill, now a prominent Craft Centre. The Swanskin Seafarers of Sturminster
A collaboration between Sturminster Newton Heritage Trust, Sturminster Newton High School, J M Olds Collegiate in Newfoundland, and Emerald Ant artists. Teenagers from 2 schools across the Atlantic shared a heritage story, discovering they had the same family names, all inspired by a pair of Swanskin mittens manufactured at Sturminster Mill in the 1800s. Through shadows and voices we follow real life characters George Penny and Thomas Adams to show how Dorset people emigrated to Newfoundland in 1600 – 1800 to join the cod-fishing industry, please watch the The Swanskin Seafarers of Sturminster.
The Bluebell Project
On May 29th 2021 Wraxall Woods in West Dorset came alive with art and music as local families enjoyed a day out for the first time for ages in a wonderful celebration of a bluebell wood.
